Frequently Asked Questions
DOES MY CONNECTION TO THE ADF NEED TO BE CURRENT OR RECENT?
Eligibility for membership of the AMWChoir is set out in the Association Rules. The relevant rule specifies, under Membership Qualifications, that AMWChoir members shall have a significant relationship with an ADF member or be a female ADF member or that the connection has recently changed.
I AM A MEMBER. CAN MY DAUGHTER ALSO BECOME A MEMBER?
Yes. The AMWChoir offers two levels of membership for girls under 17 years – Junior for girls aged 10 to 16 for 50% of the Adult fee; and Child for girls aged under 10 for free. These memberships are only offered on the strict condition that the girls are accompanied by an eligible adult member at all times and will have limitations on some membership privileges.
Do I have to perform with the choir?
No. The choir foremost provides a safe place for all members to sing for their hearts at regular rehearsals. Performance is encouraged but is not compulsory.
DO I HAVE TO PURCHASE A UNIFORM?
No. Uniforms are available from the AMWChoir online shop and members wear these during performances. Purchase is optional and members are welcome to wear their own black clothing.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I LOSE MY FOLDER?
Every member is given a music folder at the beginning of their membership period. If you do not return your folder to your coordinator or music keeper at the end of the year, you will be charged the cost of replacing the folder and the sheet music.
Why do I pay membership fees?
As an independently incorporated association, AMWChoir membership is a legal requirement. Partial funding by Defence funding programs, and a completely volunteer leadership base, allows us to request a minimal association membership fee. The membership fee ensures we can always cover basic costs such as sheet music and music licensing, and insurance for rehearsal and performance spaces.
What do I get when I pay my fees?
Financial members can attend rehearsals, borrow a music folder, and access practice tracks through the website so they can practise the repertoire at home. Members are covered by licensing and insurance when they perform. Members can vote in the association annual general meetings.
is the AMWCHoir incorporated?
Yes! Australian Military Wives Choir Canberra Incorporated is run by a committee of volunteer members who are elected each October at the Annual General Meeting & National Workshop.
